TTB, ATCL meet, deliberate on tourism promotion

THE much awaited arrival of the government owned Dreamliner yesterday brought together Tanzania Tourism Board (TTB) and Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) to deliberate on strategies to attract more tourists for betterment of both aviation and tourism sectors.

The meeting, which the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism Dr Aloyce Nzuki, also attended, saw both sides agreeing on common goal to enable the revived national flag carrier to achieve the intended objective of boosting the tourism sector.

Dr Nzuki directed TTB to ensure that all its promotional adverts feature ATCL, especially the 262-seater Dreamliner, which will be making international flights to various destinations, including China and India.

“The importance of this bigger plane is on its capacity to make long direct flights…these two institutions need to work together to promote our national flag carrier,” he said.

He noted that the presence of direct flights to Tanzania will reduce travelling costs to tourists visiting the country and therefore encouraging more to visit.

Dr Nzuki called on the two agencies to meet regularly and discuss ways of improving the sector as well as addressing challenges that may be faced from time to time.

He ordered TTB to look for public relations agencies in China and India, the two Asian countries that will be among the initial destinations of ATCL international flights.

“Ambassadors representing our country in various nations in the world stand a better chance of promoting our tourism destinations, it is important that they get involved.

A special seminar should be organised to enrich their knowledge on the attractions we have in the country so that they can effectively promote the country,” he said.

He noted Tanzania is endowed with many tourism attractions, adding that the direct flights will increase the number of tourists and revenues from the sector will increase.

TTB Board Chairman Judge (rtd) Thomas Mihayo said already the board was in search of PR agent in India and China as one of the strategies to use in marketing the country’s tourism attractions abroad.

“We have already nominated an officer who will coordinate the Indian and Chinese markets where ATCL will make its direct 611630025flights using Dreamliner,” he said.

He said starting with China and India was the great idea as the two countries have potentials for tourists, adding that TTB will organise the tour operators’ meeting to discuss ways of penetrating the markets of the two countries.

ATCL Board Chairman Engineer Emannuel Korosso said, “We have agreed to work together in improving the aviation industry as well as increasing the number of tourists.

We (ATCL) have started with regional flights like Entebbe, Zimbabwe, Nairobi, Kigali and South Africa to collect tourists.”

He added that ATCL will collaborate with TTB in preparing the flight magazines in which various articles will be published to help tourists to know about the available attractions.
