Water contractors warned over regular project delays

THE Dar es Salaam Water and Sewerage Authority (Dawasa) has vowed to supervise closely all water project contractors to ensure there are no more delays in completion of projects. Dawasa Acting Chief Executive Officer, Dr Suphian Masasi said this yesterday after the Minister for Water and Irrigation, Professor Makame Mbarawa issued a warning to two firms, Jain Irrigation System and Overseas Infrastructure Alliance who are undertaking water projects in Dar es Salaam and Coast regions for failure to meet their deadline and underperforming . Dr Masasi said they are going to review scheduled activities of all contractors conducting projects under Dawasa, especially those with problems. PRESIDENT John Magufuli yesterday led thousands of Dar es Salaam residents to receive the newly procured Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, silencing his critics. PM plans one week camp on palm revival

THE government is embarking on strategies to revamp palm farming and palm oil production, with Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa planning a one week camp in Kigoma region this month to campaign for the drive. Speaking here over the weekend, the premier said the government is determined to end importation of cooking oil in the near future through tapping the immense palm oil potentials, domestically. TTB, ATCL meet, deliberate on tourism promotion

THE much awaited arrival of the government owned Dreamliner yesterday brought together Tanzania Tourism Board (TTB) and Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) to deliberate on strategies to attract more tourists for betterment of both aviation and tourism sectors. The meeting, which the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism Dr Aloyce Nzuki, also attended, saw both sides agreeing on common goal to enable the revived national flag carrier to achieve the intended objective of boosting the tourism sector. Dreamliner arrival sparks great hopes

BOEING 787-8-Dreamliner touched the Tanzanian soil last evening, confirming the government’s resolve to reclaim the country’s lost glory in the domestic air transport industry. There are clear indications that Tanzania may soon become both the regional air transport and tourism hub. According to Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL), the new aircraft is scheduled for domestic flights for one month before launching its first international route to Mumbai, India. ATCL Head of Business Lily Fungamtama said the Dreamliner, with a 15-hour cruise capacity, will initially fly from Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) to Kilimanjaro and Mwanza airports. ATCL is currently operating domestic routes, including Kilimanjaro, Mwanza, Mbeya, Tabora, Kigoma, Bukoba and Zanzibar. The airline also flies to Comoro and plans are afoot to launch Bujumbura and Entebbe routes in Burundi and Uganda, respectively.
