Miembeni boycott hurts teams in Isles League

MIEMBENI City continue to boycott Zanzibar Premier League games after this weekend missing their third game in a row.   Miembeni who were to play Kilimani City over the weekend once again failed to appear at Amaan Stadium, the venue of the game. Their failure to honour three matches consecutively means the team has made exit from the league and they will be relegated to the lower division, according to the league’s regulations. Deeply troubled Miembeni had written to the league organisers asking for the withdrawal, but their wish was not granted. The withdrawal of Miembeni City has deeply affected the league’s standing table as benefited some of the teams and hurt many others. One of the victims are JKU who have lost six points from 42 to 36. They are now fifth-placed in the league table. The league leaders KVZ have remained a the driver’s seat despite losing six points. They are parading 40 points instead of 46 points which the team carved prior to Miembeni City withdrawal. Zimamoto w

Mission accomplished for Simba

UNLESS miracles happen, Simba are 99 per cent sure of this year’s League title following a 1-0 win over Ndanda at the National Stadium yesterday. With three matches to end their campaign, Simba are undisputable champions as they just need two points more to reach 67 points that none of their closest pursuers can reach.   Simba traditional rivals Young Africans look a distant threat to the unbeaten Msimbazi Street Boys. Yanga who have played 24 matches can knock at 66 points do they win their remaining six matches. Azam’s 1-2 loss to Stand United at Kambarage Stadium in Shinyanga was a big boost to Simba as Azam now reach 58 points if they win all three remaining matches. While Simba benefited much from the win, it was opposite to Ndanda who are now placed at the danger zone with only 23 points in hand. Ndanda are second from bottom and three points above the bottom-placed Njombe Mji with 22 points. As anticipated, Simba started the game brightly with the partnership of John Bocco-Emm
