85 online outfits in limbo as one gets registration

APPLICATIONS from 86 online content providers have been submitted to the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) for registration, out of which one has been approved so far in compliance with regulations covering online content under the Electronic and Postal Communications Act (EPOCA), 2010.   The Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Dr Harrison Mwakyembe (pictured), informed the august House here on Friday evening that other bloggers are being guided by the industry regulator to meet the requisite registration criteria. TEARS of joy filled Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) after two young women who had undergone kidney transplant surgery were discharged yesterday. The operation is expected to prolong their life expectancy and will bring an end to several years of grueling dialysis sessions.   Ms Suzan John (22), a resident of Zanzibar and a form four student and Ms Asha Kisebengo (28), an employee of Ubungo Municipal Council, spent 12 days at the hospital, where they were receiving treatment from a team of medical specialists. The young women are among the four kidney patients who received transplants at the facility from 16 April to 18 April this year, a feat that was accomplished in partnership with experts from BLK Supper Specialist Hospital of India. “I would like to thank my aunt for donating her kidney to me and medical specialists who made the transplant possible. Cooking oil price may rise unless...

TWO oil tankers have docked at the Dar es Salaam Port for two weeks now due to a stalemate by some government institutions over how much the importer should pay in taxes.   The situation may lead to skyrocketing of prices of cooking oil in the local market. PRESIDENT John Magufuli’s dream, alongside his compatriots of seeing Dodoma City gain its status as the country’s nerve centre has been given impetus by the African Development Bank (AfDB), through a commitment to finance construction of state-of-the art infrastructure, including the much dreamed of Msalato International Airport.   AfDB President, Dr Akinumwi Adesina, expressed the commitment in Dodoma before he flew back home yesterday during which he praised President Magufuli for his resolve to fight graft and misuse of government resources, enforce accountability, and propel the country’s economic growth. The construction of Msalato International airport on the outskirts of Dodoma City is of great importance to the nation given the government’s decision to shift its headquarters to the newest city. THE Minister for Agriculture, Dr Charles Tizeba, has strongly warned those who flout government directives by buying coffee directly from the farmers and smuggling the produce to neighbouring countries.   Dr Tizeba was speaking with members of Kagera Cooperative Union (KCU1990) limited, Karagwe District Cooperative Union (KDCU) and Tanzania Coffee Board (TCB). The meeting, among other things, aimed at sorting out several issues including how KCU and KDCU would get funds for collecting coffee from villages during the 2018/19 crop season. “Coffee farmers have been restricted to sell their produce through the cooperative union system. Under the new system all farmers were required to sell their coffee through the cooperative unions in their areas. We are doing this basically to protect farmers and ensure that they are getting fair prices,” he said. VICE-PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has reiterated the government’s commitment to promote women’s emancipation through capacity building in various areas. PRESIDENT John Magufuli has sent a message of condolences to the family and relatives of former Regional Commissioner (RC) Abbas Kandoro (pictured), who passed away at the Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) in Dar es Salaam on Friday, where he was undergoing treatment.   The deceased had served as RC in Tabora, Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Mbeya. Kibaha DC allocates land to empower young people

KIBAHA District Commissioner (DC), Ms Assumpter Mshama, has allocated 1,000 acres of land to be released to the youth in the district as was directed by President John Magufuli during his official visit in the district.   DC Mshama made the announcement shortly after finishing a meeting with District Extension officers in Mlandizi Division, this week, which aimed at discussing challenges facing the officers in implementing their official duties on daily basis. “During his visit at Metal industry owned by Mohamed Kiluwa at Disunyara village, the president gave the order for that land which was once owned by the investor, who had failed to develop it to be released to the public,” she said.
