Simba brilliance unites MPs
MEMBERS of Parliament (MPs) from both ruling party (CCM) and the opposition camp yesterday set aside their differences inside the National Assembly here to congratulate Simba Sports Club as the new champion of the Tanzania Premium League.
The debating Chamber turned into a place of celebrations with the MPs mostly the fans of the club in excitement mood failed to hold back their joy and offered standing ovation immediately after the Parliament Chairman Najma Giga announced the presence of the Club inside the House.
Most of the lawmakers displayed books of the Ministry of Defense and the National Services, which were in red colour as the responsible Minister Hussen Mwinyi was preparing to table his ministry’s budget estimates for 2018/2019 financial year.
Players of Simba and some of the top leaders, including the vocal spokesperson Haji Manara had paid a visit to the Parliament to observe Parliamentary proceedings. The celebrations took place after question and answer session when voices like “This is Simba” were heard as the Chairman was introducing them.
The MP for Lushoto Shaaban Shekilindi (CCM), went an extra mile when he displaced Simba Club’s T-shirt written “Simba Bingwa 2018-2019” fuelling joyful statements from his fellow fans, while Mbozi MP, Pascal Haonga (Chadema) showed his reddish tie as a sign of joining the celebrations.
In her welcoming remarks, Giga said the team had come with 10 leaders and 48 players. Some of the leaders and players named were Salim Abdallah, Aden Rage, Mohamed Dewji, Idi Kajuna, Haji Manara, Coach Pierre Lechantre, Masoud Juma.
Emmanuel Okwi was the last to be named, causing the MPs to break into joy. As other players were standing during the introduction session, the MPs showed their excitement as they kept on banging desks on their seats, a situation that forced the Chairperson of the Parliament to intervene and request them to calm down.
Before the team was introduced, when MPs were asking questions and ministers providing answers, most of them expressed their happiness to the team to be crowned champions even before end of the league session.
The first to show his feelings was the Deputy Minister of State in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government) Joseph Kakunda, when responding a question said, “I woke up today at 4.00am and my happiness to see Simba the Champions.
I am confident this time around Tanzanians will not get pressure in international tournaments because Simba plays well.” Ilala MP, Musa Azzan Zungu (CCM), while asking a question had this to say, “A fierce animal has entered inside this debating chamber, but don’t worry we are safe”.
