Observe integrity, Amb Idd tells secretaries
ZANZIBAR's Second Vice-President Ambassador Seif Ali Idd has urged the secretarial cadre in the country to maintain high level of integrity and professionalism while performing their duties.
Ambassador Idd made the call when gracing the opening of the five-day professional secretaries conference at the State University of Zanzibar in West Urban yesterday.
The annual event, organized by Tanzania Personal Secretaries Association (TAPSEA), has attracted personal secretaries from public and private institutions.
Addressing the secretaries, Ambassador Idd said, secretarial profession is among the key skills that require high level of secrecy and reminded TASEA members to perform their tasks responsibly as they handle confidential documents in their respective daily duties.
"It is important to keep secret. In your position you're exposed to many official and personal issues, so in your duties you must ensure you're very confidential to keep the government and your bosses' secrets," Ambassador Idd told the secretaries.
"For many years I have served in the government, especially in leadership positions, I have executed my duties efficiently thanks to great support from my personal secretaries whom I have been lucky to work with very closely," added Ambassador Idd.
He recalled that, the secretarial profession has evolved over the years and its practitioners must also change in the way they operate. The Second Vice-President also implored the secretarial staff to continue upgrading themselves to enhance their work efficiency and competence.
He said, through upgrading, the secretaries will place themselves in a good position to climb up the radar and serve in higher positions, including executive positions.
He said, since the profession is dynamic, secretaries in the country should continue advancing their skills to reciprocate with new demands characterised by technological and scientific advancements. Ambassador Idd appreciated the secretaries, saying they have always played a vital role in helping him in his duties.
TAPSEA Chairlady, Zuhura Maganga Mamboleo said, the association has been fighting for the improvement of their working conditions and salaries, which she claimed to be unsatisfactory.
She added that, the association was also committed to upgrading the profession, noting that modern secretaries require extra skills, excellent work attitude and technological advancement to carry out their duties.
She revealed that, the association has been working closely with colleges and universities with the view enable its members pursue further studies and obtain qualifications in various fields that will enable them to execute their duties diligently.
The Minister for Work, Empowerment, Elders, Youth, Women and Children, Ms Maudline Castico, speaking at the event, issued warning to managers who abuse their subordinates, saying the incidents were still rampant with female workers affected most.
She said, the acts were demoralising the supporting staffs and affecting their performance, insisting the government will take measures against their perpetuators.
