Mmary looks for first volleyball title in Rwanda
JACKSON Mmary and his team Rwanda Energy Group (REG) are well set for the epic final match of the Rwanda National Volleyball League title in Kigali after winning a tough playoff over the weekend.
Tanzanian volleyball ace Mmary told the ‘Daily News’ from Kigali yesterday that his Rwandan team fought bravery to win the second playoff match against University of Tourism Technology & Business Studies (UTB). The in-form REG slashed UTB 3-1 again to cruise to the final showdown.
REG recorded the same score in the first playoff match a week before and needed another win to sail through. The winners started impressively with a 25-22 victory in the first set, but again lost second 24-26 for UTB level the score.
But REG came back strongly to win the third set with 25-20 score before sealing the victory with 28-26 in the fourth set. Mmary said: “I’m so happy with the win, the match was tough, but now we have a last game to win so as to clinch the title.”
He said he and his team are training hard so as to win the title for the team and as well to raise high the Tanzanian flag as its ambassadors there. “I’m working tirelessly as an individual and all teammates are engaged in intensive preparation as well.
May the Lord guide us to win,” he said. REG are now waiting to face the winner between the defending champions Gisagara and the former champions APR who will play their final playoff on May 19 this year.
APR forced for the decider after stiff challenge before winning 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 15-10) over Gisagara who impressively won first match 3-0, but failed to match their early form this time around.
