JPM invited to decorate Simba

PRESIDENT John Magufuli has been invited to present trophy to the newly crowned Mainland Premier League champions, Simba SC.

The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has confirmed that Simba will receive the trophy at the end of their game with Kagera Sugar at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.

TFF president, Wallace Karia, told journalists yesterday that the federation has written to the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Harrison Mwakyembe requesting the ministry to invite President Magufuli at the special occasion in which, he will also be presented with the CECAFA trophy won by the national Under-17 side, Serengeti Boys.

“We are waiting for a response from the ministry and at the moment all necessary preparations for the occasion are going on well,” Karia said. Initially, Simba had requested to be presented with their trophy during last Saturday’s encounter against Singida united at the Namfua Stadium in Singida, in which Simba won 1-0.

However, the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) Chief Executive Officer, Boniface Wambura said they did not receive formal request from the club. Now the TFF has said John Bocco will be handed the silverware following the Sunday afternoon game, with title celebration party expected to start from 2pm.

According to TFF, entrance fee has been pegged at 15,000/- VIP A seats, 7,000/- for VIP B and C and 3,000/- for other seats. Simba were crowned champions as third-placed Young Africans suffered back to back defeats.

They suffered a a shock 2-0 away defeat to Tanzania Prisons in Mbeya last week.

Yanga had to win the match to at least keep the title race mathematically alive but they were stunned at Sokoine Memorial Stadium in Mbeya, when Eliuta Mpepo and Salum Bosco, scored a goal each after the break.

Yanga also lost 1-0 at the hands of Mtibwa Sugar last Sunday with Hassan Dilunga scoring the solitary goal as the Jangwani Street lads remained glued third on the log with 48 points.

With two matches to end their campaign, Simba’s 68 points tally cannot be reached by any other team in the league.

Yanga, who looked a distant threat to the unbeaten Msimbazi Street lads have played 26 matches and can knock at 60 points do they win their remaining five matches.

Second placed Azam, with 52 points, can now reach 58 points if they win all two remaining matches.
