Simba test tricky Mtibwa Sugar

SIMBA SC will be looking to extend their lead at the helm of the Premier League table when they face resilient Mtibwa Sugar at bumpy Jamhuri Stadium, Morogoro this afternoon.

It will be the second consecutive away match for the Msimbazi Street side who posted a thrilling 2-0 triumph over Njombe Mji at Saba Saba ground, a victory that enabled them to reopen a three point gap over their traditional rivals Young Africans.

Hence a win today will make the six points clear of their closet pursuers. But, history and records show that the match won’t be easy for the leaders as Mtibwa Sugar scarcely lose at home.

The return of midfielder Haruna Niyonzima who missed a number of the team’s engagements this season due to injury, likely to revamp the team’s midfield department as far as maximisation of three points for the championship race this season is concerned.

The Rwandan import played a pivotal role towards Simba’s success against Njombe Mji after he was introduced in the second half of the game.

Likewise, the Reds’ lethal hit men John Bocco and Emmanuel Okwi are expected to lead the team’s frontline at the venue reputed to be unfriendly to the visiting teams. Both strikers have proved to be very crucial for the team when it comes to goal scoring.

The duo has netted more goals for the club than other striker and both remain the right candidates for this season’s golden boot chase. Speaking recently on radio interview, Mtibwa Sugar Communications Officer Thobias Kifaru said they will not give Simba an easy ride despite them (Simba) being the current league leaders.

“It will be a difficult game altogether, but we have done ample preparations and I am confident that our boys will do a great job tomorrow (today),” he said. Furthermore, Kifaru requested Mtibwa Sugar supporters to descend at the venue in big numbers to back up their team from the first to the last whistle.

On Friday, the Sugarcane growers side defeated Singida United 3-0 at Namfua Stadium, Singida to keep on chasing for a top five spot on the table, a win which saw them clinging to the sixth slot on the log and six points behind Singida United.

This alone defines how difficult the match is going to be considering the fact that both sides come in freshly with victories in their previous league campaigns.

So far, Mtibwa Sugar have won seven games, drew nine matches and lost five times respectively while their opponents Simba are yet to give away three points this season as they are the only team to enjoy smooth ride in the league with fourteen wins and seven draws.

However, after today’s encounter, Simba will have to wait until March 29th for the epic league clash against city traditional rivals Young Africans to be played at the National Stadium in the city.

On the other hand, Yanga will have one more CAF Confederation Cup second leg tie against Ethiopia’s Wolaitta Dicha next week before they too begin preps for the derby encounter. In previous match between the two giants played at the National Stadium, the score line was 1-1.

In other league games played yesterday, Mbeya City hold Azam FC to a goalless draw at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya while Ndanda were held to a 1-1 draw against Kagera Sugar at Nangwanda Sijaona Stadium in Mtwara.
