Pandya wins Tanga Rally


MZIZIMA Motor Sports Club crew, Dharam Pandya opened the new rally season with high note after winning Mkwabi Rally of Tanga yesterday.

The win placed Pandya ahead of the rest in the National Rally Championship (NRC) title race with 25 points. Pandya, who finished overall second in the last season race for the best driving title, thanked his sponsors, Puma Energy and Toyota Tanzania for the support that earned him the title in Tanga.

“It is good to start a season with victory since it puts me in a good position to win the national championship,” said Pandya who was driving ultrafast Subaru GBV. Pandya also thanked his experienced navigator, Moses Matovu for guiding him to the victory. Kilimanjaro-based Rajpar Dhani finished second overall also in Subaru GBV. The position has awarded him with 18 points.

Tanga’s Shane Abass pocketed 15 points after finishing third in Subaru Impreza. He finished ahead of his brother Aliasger Papu who notched 12 points as the fourthplaced winner. Eight managed to finish the rally out of eleven cars that attended a flag off at Mkwabi Super market in Tanga on Saturday.

The second best from Dar es Salaam was Hassan Ramzan Ashur who finished fifth ahead of Tufail Amin of Dar es Salaam who clinched the sixth position. Seventh overall was Altaf Munge from Dar es Salaam leaving the 8th position to Anthony John of Tanga.
