Mmary sparkles in Rwanda League
TANZANIA volleyball ace Jackson Mmary was instrumental when his team, Rwanda Energy Group notched two consecutive league wins in Kigali over the weekend.
Report from Rwanda said the Tanzanian played a key role in the matches which earned Rwanda Energy Group (REG) 18 points, just two points behind Leaders University of Tourism Technology and Business Studies (UTB) with 20 points.
Rwanda National League is one of the most powerful volleyball leagues in Africa. REG are now placed third, just a point adrift second- placed Gisagara. Speaking to the ‘Daily News’ from Rwanda yesterday Mmary said he was delighted with weekend results.
“I am happy with the part I played in my team’s performances as the victories helped us bridge gap with our two rivals,” he said. He said REG beat the former champions University of Kibungo (UNIK) and IPRC-South each in three straight sets.
Mmary, the former Makongo Secondary student has secured the scholarship to pursue a Bachelor Degree in Human Resources Management at Nkumba University in Uganda three years ago. Also former Jeshi Stars player, Mmary said he has adapted Rwandan life since he extended a contract with REG early this year.
He said he is comfortable with the raise of salary from 1m/- per month to 2.6m/- monthly plus 1m/- bonus per trophy. According to him, UTB leapfrogged champions Gisagara at the top of national volleyball league table after beating Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) and IPRC-East 3-1 respectively to amass 20 points, one ahead of Gisagara, who won 3-2 over APR.
