Bocco earns Stars recall, Mkude dropped
SIMBA skipper, John Bocco has been recalled in the national team, Taifa Stars however surprisingly the in-form midfielder maestro Jonas Mkude has been dropped in the squad. The team has been summoned for two international friendly ties on FIFA calendar.
Taifa Stars head coach, Salum Mayanga has announced the 23-man squad for the two friendly matches against Algeria and Congo to be held on March 22 in Algeria and March 27 in Dar es Salaam respectively.
Apart from the surprising exclusion of Mkude, who Simba’s Frenchman tactician Pierre Lechantre has named the best midfielder, Mayanga also shocked football supporters by recalling striker Thomas Ulimwengu from the Swedenbased side AFC Eskilstuna.
Ulimwengu has been out of action for quite some time due to long knee injury. Mayanga has also included five players Mohamed Issa, Abdulaziz Makame, Mudathir Yahya, Hamis Abdallah, Abdulrahman Mohammed and Faisal Salum who were in the Zanzibar Heroes squad that finished second in the last year’s CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Kenya.
As well Mayanga has called for duty five foreign-based led by skipper Mbwana Samatta from Belgium’s KRC Genk, Abdi Banda (Baroka FC –South Africa) Hamis Abdalah (Sony Sugar FC- Kenya), Farid Musa (Tennerife FC-Spain) and Simon Msuva from Morocco side Difaa el Jadida.
The squad named yesterday in Dar es Salaam by Stars Assistant Coach, Hemed Suleiman Moroko is expected to start a training camp on March 18, four days before their clash against Algeria’s ‘Desert Warriors’. Stars will play Algeria on Thursday, March 22 and will be engaged in another friendly on Tuesday March 27 against the Democratic Republic of Congo ‘The Leopards’ at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Stars full squad named yesterday comprises: Goalkeepers: Aishi Manula, Abdularhaman Mohammed and Ramadhan Kabwili. Defenders : Shomari Kapombe, Hassan Kessy, Gadiel Michael, Kelvin Yondani, Abdi Banda and Erasto Nyoni.
Midfielders: Hamis Abdallah, Mudathir Yahya, Said Ndemla, Faisal Salum, Abdulaziz Makame, Farid Musa, Thomas Ulimwengu, Ibrahim Ajib, Shiza Kichuya and Mohamed Issa. Strikers: Mbwana Samatta, Simon Msuva, John Raphael Bocco and Yahaya Zayd.
All the two international friendly ties aim at preparing the team for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers whereby Tanzania has been pooled in group L alongside Uganda, Lesotho and Cape Verde in the ticket to the 2019 AFCON finals to be staged in Cameroon.
The group is currently lead by Uganda with three points followed by Tanzania and Lesotho who are tied on one point and Cape Verde are at the bottom pointless.
