Yanga lament, embark on marathon fixtures
YOUNG Africans embark on their marathon fixture in Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) and Mainland Premier League after jetting back on Thursday night from Seychelles, where they eliminated Saint Louis in the two –legged preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
Yanga are scheduled to travel today to Songea to face Majimaji FC in the ASFC fourth round encounter at the Majimaji Stadium tomorrow. Thereafter, they will head to Mtwara to honour their league game against Ndanda FC at the Nangwanda Sijaona Stadium on Wednesday.
The league defending champions are scheduled to take on Mtibwa Sugar on March 3rd at the Jamhuri Stadium in Morogoro, before facing Botswana’s Township Rollers in the CAF Champions League first round, first leg tie to be held on March 7th at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam. Initially, Yanga were scheduled to leave for Songea yesterday but due to players’ fatigue, the club decided that the team should rest for at least a day before leaving for Songea for the ASFA Cup fixture.
Yanga are feeling the heat of the piled up fixture. The club’s General Secretary, Charles Boniface Mkwasa complained about the tight fixture, saying it gives them no time to rest. “The team has three tournaments to attend namely the ASFA Cup, Mainland Premier League and the CAF Champions League that’s why we are looking forward to request the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) to reschedule some of the league matches.
“Players need time to recuperate and it will be tricky to play in ChampChampions League just few days after playing a league game,” complained Mkwasa. The club’s Media and Communication Officer, Dismas Ten was quoted as saying that they will submit an official letter to the TPLB to ask them to reschedule their game against Mtibwa Sugar. Zambian tactician George Lwandamina’s side set a date with the Botswana’s Champions Rollers after 2-1 aggregate win over St Louis.
Yanga were held to a 1-1 draw by St Louis in the second leg match in Seychelles but their 1-0 victory at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam helped them ease past the Seychelles side. Their opponents Rollers pulled one of the biggest upsets in continental club football, when they eliminated Sudanese giants, El Merreikh following a 4-2 goal victory on aggregate.
They registered a 3-0 win against the Sudanese in the first leg, before losing2-1 in the second leg clash on Wednesday held in Omdurman in Sudan. While, Yanga will be away in Songea tomorrow, two venues will host ASFC matches today. Azam FC take on the newly promoted side in the topflight league for 2018/19 season Kinondoni’s KMC at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam, whereas at the Namfua Stadium in Singida, hosts Singida United will play against Polisi Tanzania.
The fourth round will continue tomorrow with Geita’s Buseresere FC welcoming Mtibwa Sugar at the Nyamagana Stadium in Mwanza and JKT Tanzania formerly known as JKT Ruvu will battle it out with Ndanda FC at the Azam Complex in Chamazi. The fourth round will climax on Monday next week with Kiluvya United playing against Tanzania Prisons at the Mabatini Stadium at Mlandizi in Coast region, while Stand United will be at home hosting Dodoma FC at the CCM Kambarage Stadium in Shinyanga.
Meanwhile, the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) has made a change on the premier league fixture between Lipuli FC and Ndanda FC scheduled to be held on March 2nd at the Samora Stadium in Iringa.
