Simba switch focus on Mbao battle
AFTER knocking out Djibouti’s Gendarmerie Nationale in the CAF Confederation Cup, Simba now turn their focus to the Mainland Premier League and their next hurdle is Mbao FC at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Monday.
Simba registered a 0-1 win in the preliminary round return leg clash at the El Hadj Hassan Gouled Aptidon Stadium in the horn of Africa nation capital city, Djibouti on Tuesday. Ugandan striker, Emmanuel Okwi scored the solitary goal yesterday. The Msimbazi Reds progressed to the first round of the continental second tier tournament on a 5-0 aggregate.
Simba entered the pitch with a massive 4-0 advantage from their first leg match at the National Stadium about a week ago. Following the victory, Simba have set date with Egyptian side Al Masry in the first round. The Egyptians bundled out Zambia’s Green Buffalos despite losing 2-1 at the Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka on Tuesday. The Egyptians progress into the next round on 5-2 aggregate.
In the first leg, Green Buffaloes lost 4-0 at the hands of Al Masry Club in Cairo. Going into the first round, Simba will have to keep momentum and be at their best to beat a much tougher opponents Al Masry. Speaking after cruising into the first round of the continental second tier club competitions, Simba Team Manager Richard Roberts disclosed that they are aware of the threat the Egyptian side poses and says preparations for the twolegged tie begin right now.
“We know the next game will be more difficult, but we are going to the same solidarity, and we have a great deal of success,” he told the press in Tanzania. “This is a new force I know there is a history against civilian teams that can be a challenge to us but I strongly ask the Simba fans to continue to believe us, since we have a very good players with an experienced technical team beach, so we can do more things,” he added.
Simba will host Al Masry in the first leg on March 6th at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam and return leg will be staged on March 16th away in Egypt. Simba were due to jet back early yesterday morning from Djibouti, ready to honour their next league fixture.
They are leading the league standings after collecting 42 points, five points ahead of the defending champions and their rivals Young Africans.
