  TANZANIA has received yet another boost in its industrialisation agenda after the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) inked a programme for country partnership with the Tanzanian governme. The programme was signed by UNIDO Director General Li Yong and Tanzania’s Minister for Industries, Trade and Investment, Charles Mwijage at the signing ceremony that was witnessed by Vice President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, Finance and Planning Minister, Dr Philip Mpango, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr Augustine Mahiga and UN resident coordinator Alvaro Rodrigues.   CHINA has promised to boost cooperation with African countries on strategic threats such as terrorism, piracy and natural disasters, as the continent remains an integral part of the efforts to build a better world for all.   SERENGETI District Authorities and Frankfurt Zoological (FZS) have commended the European Union (EU) for funding significant projects which focus on protecting Serengeti ecosystem. THE Kagera Regional Commissioner (RC), Salum Kijuu has appealed to various leaders in the area to ensure that funds released for the ongoing road projects are spent according to the value of the money. He said District Executive Directors (DEDs) and Chairmen of the respective Councils should make sure they closely supervise the rural roads’ constructions and only award tenders to competent contractors. “Roads are important because they hasten development by enabling people at the grassroots to transport their crops to the markets….I would like to caution residents also in the area to be vigilant and ensure infrastructures like roads are not vandalized because they cost taxpayers millions of shillings,” Mr Kijuu further said. MZIZIMA Motor Sports Club crew, Dharam Pandya opened the new rally season with high note after winning Mkwabi Rally of Tanga yesterday. The win placed Pandya ahead of the rest in the National Rally Championship (NRC) title race with 25 points.   KENYAN runners have once again dominated the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Marathon after sweeping all of the important medals in full and half races in both men and women’s disciplines. However, Failuna Abdi (26) had managed to raise up in the top ten of 21 Tigo half Marathon for women when she finished second at 01:13:52. Like in the past events, the Kenyan runners looked superior in the long races that recorded an overwhelming turnout with over 11,000 multinational runners involved. CHINESE People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) has supported the implementation of a multi-billion dollar development plan, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which envisages benefiting East Africa, among others. Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Egypt are among African countries that will directly benefit from the six-economic corridor project, spanning 68 countries and covering over 60 per cent of the world population. China, the world’s second largest economy, last year invited Tanzania to the BRI forum in Beijing, not only because of her historic and natural part of the Maritime Silk, but more importantly, because of the special traditional friendship between the two countries.   HIGH Court’s Land Division has ordered two plaintiffs to pay the government over 2.6bn/- as rental fees of the premises from where they are currently operating. The amount includes 40m/- monthly rent payable from September 2012 to date and 200m/- awarded as counterclaim to the defendant, the National Development Corporation (NDC), against the plaintiffs. Judge Moses Mzuna ruled in favour of the state owned NDC, dismissing with costs the land suit lodged by the two plaintiffs, the International Medical and Technological University (IMTU) and Registered Trustees of Vignan Educational Foundation Bangalore, India. “We appreciate, much as IMTU had conferred degrees to many Tanzania’s doctors who graduated from the university. However, upon being fully fledged, the plaintiff must pay rent so that even the government can benefit from collected tuition fees,” the judge said.
