A GROUP of 36 African-Americans has arrived in Tanzania for a fact-finding mission to discover their ancestral origin. The group, which landed at Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) on July 10, 2018, has embarked on their trip in the northern tourism circuit to learn their ancestral origin. Parks Adventure Ltd, the travel company behind the group, said the trip, the first of its kind in Tanzania, would enable the African-Americans to explore their ancestral history through places, objects and tastes. The African-Americans say they have passionate interest in bridging the cultural gap by coming back home to explore their heritage and fill the void. “Much as America was founded by immigrants, we hold our ancestral heritage near and dear. TANZANIA Trade Development Authority (TANTRADE) plans to extend its business clinics to border posts to address hurdles that importers and exporters experience at the borders. TANTRADE Director General Edwin Rutageruka said the clinics, which will involve representatives from the national regulatory authorities, will also educate and solve challenges that importers whose goods are destined for Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) face. The move is meant to create a more friendly business environment in the country, Mr Rutageruka said in an interview with the ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam over the weekend. COURT of Appeal has nullified the High Court’s proceedings and judgment that ruled in favour of Q-Consult Limited over ownership of Coco Beach shore in Dar es Salaam. Justices Kipenka Mussa, Richard Mziray and Gerald Ndika reached the decision while determining an appeal lodged by Kinondoni Municipal Council after noting some irregularities by the High Court Judge who presided over the dispute. THE Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Hamisi Kigwangalla, has received a donation of a $175,000 file server from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to be used by Tanzania Tourism Board (TTB) to easy accessibility and dissemination of information about the sector. Speaking after he had received the donation, Dr Kigwangalla, thanked the USAID, said it had been in the frontline to support government efforts to promote tourist destinations in Tanzania through the publication of fliers and magazines, among others. “USAID has to a large extent contributed to ensuring that TTB and its stakeholders are easily accessed. THE High Court (Commercial Division) has attached properties owned by two Chinese investment companies to recover over 11bn/- loan facility advanced by Exim Bank (Tanzania) Limited. The attachment order has been issued against five judgment debtors, including the two companies, Xing Hua Investment Limited and Yicheng Xing Hua Industries & Trade Co Limited. Other judgment debtors are individual persons such as Lusekelo Mwekapanda, Li Shuchuan and Xiao Yunihua, who, according to the plaint of the suit, had executed guarantee to Xing Hua Investment Limited, as the principal borrower. PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has counseled men in Kishapu District, Shinyanga Region to go for voluntary HIV/AIDS testing in order to know their health status. The Premier made the remarks on Friday during a rally at Mwangongo village shortly after inaugurating a cotton market in the area. The gathering was also attended by nearby villagers. “I would like to insist that HIV/AIDS is still a threat to our health, and most men don’t like to go for testing …you become comfortable when your wives go for tests,”…don’t depend on the results of your spouse, you are supposed to go for screening,” he said. THE Attorney General (AG) has won another case in a dispute over payments of government subventions to political parties in Tanzania. This follows the decision of the Court of Appeal to dismiss with costs an application for review lodged by Registered Trustees of Democratic Party (DP), seeking to challenge some provisions under the Political Parties Act relating to the funding system. Justices Bernard Luanda, Augustine Mwarija and Rehema Mkuye ruled against the opposition party, previously chaired by Rev. Christopher Mtikila (who is deceased) after noting that the application did not meet the required tests to warrant the court to review its decision on the matter. AT least 13,000 residents of Maganzo and Masagala villages will now enjoy safe and clean water after the completion of the construction of a pre-paid water project in the area. The project, which has cost over 1bn/- has been implemented in Kishapu District of Shinyanga Region. The prepaid water project was funded by UK aid through the Human Development Innovation Fund (HDIF). The innovative prepaid water technology was developed by Susteq social enterprises based in Netherlands and the project was handed over to Kishapu District Commissioner (DC), Ms Nyabaganga Talaba recently. THE Court of Appeal has dismissed an appeal by two robbers, Saad Mluka and Haruna Batezi, who were sentenced to 30 years imprisonment by the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar es Salaam for robbing 50,000/- and other items from a pedestrian. Justices Bernard Luanda, Richard Mziray and Saban Lila ruled that as the two courts below had decided the evidence on record is strong enough to ground the conviction of the two appellants. They dismissed all six grounds of appeal the appellants had advanced to challenge the evidence on the prosecution’s case that was not watertight enough to ground their convictions. THE government has urged parents and institutions that sponsor students for education to make a close follow up on their performance in a quest to protect them from engaging in bad acts. A Minister in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Mr Selemani Jafo, reminded students to effectively utilise educational opportunities so that they can bring positive changes in the country in future. The third phase of the high-risk rescue operation for the boys and their coach trapped in a cave in Thailand began Tuesday. Four boys were rescued Sunday and an additional four emerged Monday. Rescuers have been taking the strongest boys out first. It may seem counterintuitive, but the reasoning for that was that officials want the boys who have the best chance of surviving to get through the escape route first. The boys, ages 11-16, and their 25-year-old coach became stranded when they went exploring inside after a practice game. Monsoon flooding blocked off their escape and prevented rescuers from finding them for almost 10 days.

THE World Wide Fund for Nature (Tanzania) has donated over 100m/- for conservation programme of Tobora sub-catchment in Serengeti district, Mara region in efforts to save it from environmental degradation as a result of human activities. An NGO which has been active with the programme in the District for the past 15 years has worked with the local community in seeing to it that the 58 km long sub-catchment keeps its water flowing to the Mara River that drains into Lake Victoria. THE Regional Administration and Local Government ministry yesterday unveiled a list of 6,180 health personnel recruited to address the shortage countrywide. The Minister for Regional Administration and Local Administration, Mr Selemani Jafo, told reporters here yesterday that the newly hired employees who are supposed to report to their work stations within two-weeks, are those who emerged successful in the recruitment process. A total of 24,891 job seekers who had applied for a number of posts in the health sector that the government had advertised. He said the staff include medical doctors, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, nurses, clinical officers and medical attendants. A PROSECUTION witness, Paul Marealle, yesterday admitted before a Dar es Salaam Court that former President of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Jamal Malinzi is among individuals, who have been providing financial support to the Federation when experiencing funds shortage. AS the number of black rhinos continues to dwindle worldwide, Tanzania is earnestly initiating a solid partnership between public and private sectors in a spirited initiative to protect the endangered ferocious mammals. The Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Aloyce Nzuki, held a meeting with representatives of institutions with the mandate to conserve wildlife together with members of the private sector to find sustainable ways of protecting the rare rhinos.
