Now, we’re confronting the fact that every sector, including our own, has a serious problem with sexual harassment and violence. The norms that allow these abuses are the same ones that disempower the poorest women and only when they are dismantled across the globe will all women and girls be able to lead the lives they want. Practically speaking, though, what can a philanthropic organization like ours do to promote a goal—equality everywhere—that’s impossibly large? We’ve been investing in women’s health for a long time and seen significant progress.   PRESIDENT John Magufuli and Tanzania as a country has been commended for its decision to construct Standard Gage Railway (SGR) that will use electricity, in which the railway is said to be very vital in the economic growth for Tanzania, East Africa and the Great Lakes Region. Deodonne Dukundane at the end of the international UNCTAD capacitybuilding workshop held in Dar es Salaam.   MORE than 250 preterm babies have received essential state-of-the-art medical equipment and supplies from the women staff of Vodacom Tanzania as part of an initiative to provide lifesaving support. Speaking during a visit to the Muhimbili National Hospital Neonatal Unit, Vodacom Tanzania Foundation Director, Rosalynn Mworia said they are pleased to join the rest of the world to celebrate women everywhere particularly those in their own communities. “Today we are here with mothers and their preterm babies to share and celebrate the magic of life and to tell them women at Vodacom care for them too. “We have brought medical equipment and supplies for both mother and child as a show of solidarity on this battle for life,” she said.   TANZANIA financial markets have been rated on 11 slots in Africa overall index after scoring 44 per cent, heading to sustainable and inclusive growth. The index report, the first of its kind to be issued by Barclays Africa Group, showed that the country has beaten Egypt, Morocco and Ivory Coast. Launching the report yesterday, Barclays Tanzania Managing Director, Abdi Mohamed, said the Africa Financial Market Index (AFMI) advocates for the expansion and deepening of financial markets across the continent. “The Index provides countries with valuable insights and tools to improve the state of their financial markets,” Mr Mohamed told reporters yesterday. The survey of the stock markets of 17 African countries showed that Tanzania scored 44 per cent in the continent ahead of the likes Morocco (42%) Ivory Coast (41%) and Egypt (39%). YOUNG Africans have not thrown in a towel in their CAF Champions League campaign and are confident to overturn the 2-1 deficit they suffered at the hands of Township Rollers of Botswana on Tuesday. Township Rollers bossed the first round, first leg tie on Monday at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, reducing Yanga almost to novices. Two beautifully taken goals on both halves of the match by Lemponye Tshireletso and Motsholetsi Sikele gave Township Rollers a deserved victory.   THE first ever CAF Women’s Football Symposium ended on a high note with participants lauding the ground breaking two-day event as a big step towards the development of the women’s game. The closure was preceded by presentations of the recommendations by the seven working groups consisting of competitions, technical, marketing, media, governance, development and stakeholders.
